When I toured a friend from Germany in and around the Château de Versailles last month, I saw that a lot of the surrounding buildings are already in a dilapidated state. They’re dirty, they stink, and are very unfit for royalty. The only saving grace, in my opinion, is the roof architecture (example above) that has remained just as grand as they were when they were used by Louis XIV and his cohorts thereafter.
